Russell’s Of Neillsville is a family owned company that has been a part of the Neillsville community for almost 90 years. Russell’s Hardware store was established in 1932 by Art and Edna (Tragsdorf) Russell after borrowing just $500. The original Russell’s Hardware was located on 5th Street where the Neillsville Professional Building parking lot currently stands. In 1941 Russell’s Hardware moved to its location on Hewett Street where it remained for 57 years until we moved to 211 W 8th St.
After Art Russell passed away in 1945, the store was taken over by Art and Edna’s daughter Metty and her husband Glen. During the time Glen and Metty owned the store, Russell’s began carrying Furniture, Appliances, and Floor Coverings. When the store on Hewett Street became too small, Glen and Metty built a new location, known as the Warehouse Store.
In 2002 Glen and Metty sold the store to their son Bruce Rakestraw and his wife Margie. When Bruce and Margie bought Russell’s Of Neillsville, they added on 5,300 square feet of extra sales floor space on to the Warehouse store and were finally able to move Russell’s entire inventory to one building.
Over the years Bruce, with his daughter Amanda and son-in-law Travis, has remodeled Russell’s Of Neillsville to carry even more appliances, hardware, floor coverings, and more. Through the over 20 years at our last location, Russell’s Of Neillsville continued to bring our community the highest quality products and services. Russell’s Of Neillsville is now in its 4th generation of being family owned and family focused. For 89 years we have been a part of this wonderful community and we pride ourselves on having anything and everything you need for all of your repairs, making us “Your Even Better Living Store”.
Now fast forward to 2019 where we began moving to Highway 10, and remodeled the old Shopko to become even more tailored to fit your everyday needs. Adding Grocery, Clothing, Produce, Household Essentials, and even Bruce's Beer Cave, we couldn't be happier to grow to fit our surrounding communities. We are doing all that we can to truly be “Your Better Living Store."
